The kid-like slide and colourful climbing rocks awaken the long-hidden innocence. Play isn’t just for kids; adults can also indulge in it, bringing families closer together beyond physical exploration.
“The whole house is my playground” may be joyful for a kid, but it can be a disaster for parents. Setting up a dedicated playroom allows kids to develop a sense of “when, where, and what to do.” They can become masters of their own space, taking responsibility for their own tidying up and organising, thus cultivating self-discipline from an early age.
Play is undoubtedly the most enjoyable path to learning. Many people mistakenly believe that a playroom requires fancy decorations. In fact, with basic materials and a safe environment, a few cardboard boxes are enough for kid to unleash their imaginations and build a castle. Covering an entire wall with whiteboard glass and blackboard paint creates a vast graffiti wall where kid can freely create their own imaginative worlds, without being restricted by a blueprint.
Safety First
Although a playroom is an independent area, it shouldn’t be enclosed or located out of reach of adults. Therefore, a semi-open design is essential. This can include low walls, glass doors, or a living room integrated with the playroom. Doors, handles, and tabletops should be rounded or edge-finished, and equipped with soft-close hinges and slides to prevent pinching. Ensure furniture is securely fastened to the wall or floor, and pay attention to height to prevent kids from climbing onto and falling. Avoid placing storage cabinets near windows to prevent them from being climbed on and opened.
Effortless Storage
Storage cabinets in the playroom should be adapted to the kids’ height, with handles designed for easy grasping by young hands, easy opening, and clearly categorised toys featuring icons. An open design and easy access are paramount. A friendly environment encourages kids to tidy up, cultivating good habits from an early age.
Flexibility for Future Changes
Children change dramatically over the years, and a playroom can quickly become outdated. Therefore, it’s important to anticipate future plans several years in advance. This could include a study, guest room, or future bedroom. Purchase primarily movable furniture to maintain flexibility for future changes.
Wear-resistant, impact-resistant, and easy to clean
Little ones have hidden destructive potential. Whether it’s the flooring or cabinets in a playroom, non-toxic materials are essential. Another top priority is durability. Therefore, piano lacquer and wood veneer should be avoided, and fragile items like glass are also prohibited. For curtains, roller blinds are recommended, avoiding fabrics. These are not only easier to clean but also prevent allergy risks for kids.
When designing a kid’s playroom, it’s important to consider the kids’ needs from their perspective and identify their true needs. If you are interested please contact us.
