Tree City is an interactive play area designed to honour one of Northern California’s iconic natural features: the oak tree. The two structures in the children’s area are made from an abandoned oak tree that was carved into an interactive and tactile play area for children to play.

Butterfly Wall is a play area designed by Bay Area artist Charles Sowers that has space to climb and play. Butterfly Wall is an interactive sculpture controlled by 10 visitor-operated handshakes that create a delightful dance of mechanical “butterflies” rising and falling.

Spirogyra is a children’s exploration area featuring artwork by Bay Area artist Eric Staller. Spirogyra features 6-foot circular rotating spirals embedded in the floor and walls. When people walk over the glass, motion sensors activate light patterns, and the colour on the glass changes.
